Pictured: The bony ear complex (tympanoperiotic complex, or TPC) on a Fin Whale Skull.

These huge whales use their skulls to receive low-frequency sound, which causes their bony ears to vibrate.
Pictured: Sediment cores recovered from Eirik Drift, a sediment deposit east of Greenland, on International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) Expedition 395.

These deep-sea cores contain material that can give us insight into ocean currents and climate over the past 35 million years.

Below the boat lies an ancient river channel that was above sea level when humans first walked these shores.
